Baseball Fifth Grader?
Baseball leadership has since the 19th Century called itself Big League. Now is the time and the hour to live up to that billing.
We may not be smarter than a fifth grader but it is high time we tried our dead level best to at least be as smart as a fifth grader.
Did baseball create the world situation whereby the fast paced life style of achieving and over achieving was an absolute must? A fifth grader would most likely answer No. Now are we collectively smart enough to agree with that fifth grader?
Baseball the most talked about and the most written about part of the World . It is only natural that the limelight or the blind eye hears, knows , sees, and ingests our digests every portion of the action pertaining to the game and the players.
The act of body enhancement be it for beauty or for strengths sake is a norm not the extraordinary. Recognize up front and proclaim this to be a truth. Now we have admitted the truth of the matter it now allows us a chance to remedy a shortsighted deficiency of our entire society.
Matter of fact Baseball that is the entire “Baseball World” can take its cap off, wave to the crowds and say “Yes we will be the Flag carrying Leader to solve this malady.” What more could an institution or group such as Big League Baseball wish than to go down in history as the Leader toward solving and helping to eliminate a situation tending to destroy our society.
Be as smart as a fifth grader understand the problem ,accept facts, accept responsibly and accept the honor to provide an answer. Placing blame when we are in this drug mad scramble together provides no solution only boils the pot.
Every military man, every president, every congressman, every boy scout, every girl scout, every witness, every walk of life take sworn oaths to do the right thing by the office or the endeavor unto which they are becoming involved. Will the baseball world put on this cloak of leadership and set an example so profound and encompassing that baseball becomes the one secular entity which turned the tide and changed a deteriorating society.
Baseball be challenged and be as smart as a fifth grader and understand that the past is prologue the future is now.
Adopt rules of conduct for baseball which could apply equally through out our society and simply enforce the rules.
There is nothing within the realm of reality which forces one to become a baseball player or to be a part of baseball management or for that matter even a baseball fan. Bad behavior and shirking the rules in a deliberate and profound manner should not be tolerated nor condoned. Dismissal post haste from participation should be natural and standard fare.
Baseball Big Leagues you now stand in the middle of the Bull Ring do the honrable thing fight to the death to rid “The Game” of this albatross and monkey on our back “The use of harmful body and mind bending drugs.”
Where or if ever in the course of history has one group or entity such as “Baseball” been placed in a position whereby the entire world is so keenly watching the final turn of events?
You are it. Be as smart if not smarter than a fifth grader.
Jacked Up Baseball Equipment Truths!
Baseball: the great all-American pastime. Few of us can remember a summer from our childhood that did not include throwing a ball around or running the diamond. Today, baseball is all of that and much more. Baseball equipment has become as advanced as the space station…well, maybe not that advanced, but it is certainly more complicated than when we were kids! The point is baseball is not just a game anymore.
A few years ago, you grabbed your wooden bat and baseball and headed to the park for a game. However, the days of wooden bats are over (at least in the unprofessional realm of the sport). Today, everything is alloy and not just aluminum either. Boasting magnesium, scandium, and even titanium, the bats of today are far more advanced than their predecessors – but the advancement in technology does not stop there. Many new bats on the market offer graphite cores and even two-piece bats to eliminate vibration.
When it comes to advancements in baseball equipment technology, gloves were not left out. Once simply made of leather, the old fashioned kind made from cows, many gloves on the market are now available in buffalo, kangaroo, and pigskin, not to mention the numerous grades of cow and steer hide offered. The major differences in each type of hide is the softness and durability of the material, which determines the amount of time necessary to break it in and, of course, how long the glove lasts.
To the best of my knowledge, luckily, baseballs have not changed much over the years. Unless there is a square ball out there I am unaware of, the balls of the past are still used to play the game today.
With all of the advances in baseball equipment, is it any wonder records are constantly being broken? If the tools really do make the man, baseball equipment should be producing superstars, as that is the technology form which they come.
Baseball – A Quick History Lesson
Baseball has been around for decades, often times recognized as “America’s national sport”. Historical evidence of baseball indicates that its roots stem from cricket and rounders, both very popular games originating in Great Britain. The baseball we know and love today has gradually developed over many years. By the end of the 18th century, many forms of baseball were being played all over the United States. In New York City, they played a game called “One o’ Cat”. Other cities were playing “Town Ball” and “New York Ball”. These early renditions of the sport were played on a square field. Originally for bases they used stakes, later replacing the stakes with stones, but to prevent further injuries, the stones were then replaced with sand filled sacks. It wasn’t until then that people started to call them bases and this is where the name “baseball” originated.
It wasn’t until somewhere between 1850 and 1860 that baseball became increasingly popular and in 1869, professional baseball was introduced by the Cincinnati Red Stockings. Other official teams represented cities from Boston, Philadelphia, Chicago, Brooklyn, Cleveland, New York, Ohio and four other cities. Several other teams were added throughout the next quarter of the century. In 1900, what we know as the American League was founded and fought for many years to be recognized as an equal to the National League. Jackie Robinson was the first black player to join the Major Leagues in 1947, playing for the Brooklyn Dodgers.
There are several aspects that make the game of baseball what it is. For example, a teams strategy can make or break whether or not that particular team will win or lose games. Keeping in mind that your strategy will differ with each team you play against. An important factor to your strategy is your batting order and pitching rotation. Batting orders should be based upon your players different contributing strengths and sometimes weaknesses. While one player may be a fast runner, or power hitter, the next could be a dependable bunter. A batting order is designed so that the players strengths will work together, trying to advance runners and get players on the bases.
Pitching requires as much mental skill as it does physical. A perfect pitching scenario would be a “perfect game”, where the opposing team does not reach base once. The next best scenario and more common one, is what we called a “No Hitter”. This is where the pitcher does not allow a single safe hit by the opposing team. Pitching line ups change often because pitchers are usually required two to three days off between games to allow their arms to rest. However, it is important to try and align your best pitchers to be in rotation when you are facing a more competitive team.
Today, there are many different leagues other than Major League Baseball (MLB), each complete with several divisions within the actual league. Baseball is truly a part of American history, where generations have watched the sport unfold into the force it is now. It’s a flashy, competitive, skill-driven sport and over the years has never lost the real reason as to why it is so vastly popular. Year after year, from city to city, stadium to stadium, people gather for one reason and one reason – the simple love of the game.
